“Too Hard to Describe”
I’ve been writing and performing my own songs for about fifteen years.
I’ve lived in parts of Asia and Africa for a good part of my life, mostly working as an international schoolteacher. Home is now in Portugal. I was a founding member of The Urban Hyenas, a band of teachers in Addis Ababa, about ten years ago, and have played with an ever-changing group of teachers in a ukulele band in Saudi Arabia for the last six years.
In addition to songs, I also write other things. I’m the author of Ethiopian Time (Red Bird Chapbooks, 2014), Conversation Starters in a Language No One Speaks (SurVision Books, 2018, winner of the James Tate Poetry Prize 2018), My Thology: Not Always True But Always Truth (Cyberwit, 2019), and the e-chapbook What I Say to You (proletaria.org, 2020).
